Venice to Rome

May 31, 2012

When we arrived in Rome we took a bus tour around the entire city.  We learned that in ancient times Rome was named after a celestial virgin who was raped and gave both to twins, combining their names to get Roma or what we call Rome.  Rome is divided by the  Tigre River and the Romans took a lot of influence from the Greeks in the way of gods.  We learned about a lot of history from Julius Caesar, Mussolini, and Constantine.  My years of thinking History was the worst subject ever was a mistake.  I wish I knew so much more about history and what I was first hand seeing.

On our bus tour we saw the Palace of Justice, Castle of St. Angelo, St. Peters Basilica, Tigre River, Roman Ruins, Plaza Valeniza, Michelangelo Square, The Roman Amphitheatre, and the Coliseum.

After our bus tour we ate dinner and like Italian style the food kept coming and coming.  We had salad, pasta, rice, and veggies.  After dinner we walked to the Trevi fountain where this fountain was nothing like the movies.  It was the entire side of a building.  We took two coins made a wish and off we threw them.

We stopped at a gelato store and I found out that fruit flavored gelato was dairy free. Count me in for mango and strawberry.  We finished the night by walking by the Pantheon and few more squares and then viewing the magnificent Vatican City by night!  You could stand in awe for hours!
