St. Goar to Munich, Germany

May 28, 2012

This morning we had the opportunity to go around the town of St. Goar, which again was tiny.  There were three stores in total and they all opened early for us.  We learned all about beer steins and how they are made.  We saw a beer stein for anything you wanted:  Berlin wall, golf, and any country you ever wanted.  We also went to Birkenstock where you could buy some fancy shoes.  The highlight of St. Goar was the largest handmade coo coo clock.

After this adventure we got back into the bus to head to Munich, Germany.  This was actually one of my favorite cities and it could have been because we took a bike tour around town.

We went to the center of the city and went to Pegasus Palace which glowed because of the reflective gold.  This was also the first time we went into a church in Europe and it was breathtaking from the stain glass windows and details.  Hitler invaded this area and they showed us where he marched through the town.  There were bomb markings on the walls and walkways with gold in remembrance.

There was a statue of Pegasus that showed the thoughts on church and the government which we reenacted. We got on our bikes and went to the tomb of the unknown solider.  It was guarded, but they weren’t even close to tomb and I think they were on break.  Halfway through the tour we went to the beer gardens for dinner.  The English Gardens are not well kept and they have nude sections.  This is the beer garden that can hold up to 7000 people during Oktoberfest.  After our stop we went by a river that people were surfing on.  Yes, surfing on a river.  It was pretty impressive.

The rest of the evening we had in Munich.  I needed some beans so we went to Hard Rock café and then met back with the group at Hofbraunhous.
