Amsterdam to Rhine Valley

May 27, 2012

We woke up early to head over to Anna Frank’s House.  This was the location that she wrote the journal that is so famous now.  There were actual pages of the journal that were on display.  You could see where the parents would mark how tall the girls were getting, what pictures they had on their walls, and where they would all hide out being as quick as a mouse.

We had the afternoon to walk around the downtown square before heading to grab lunch, minestrone soup.

That afternoon we headed for Germany for a stop in St. Goar, Germany which was right in the middle of the Rhine Valley.

What I learned about Germany:  East/West Berlin Wall, Adidas and Puma are from Germany,
sausages and bratwurst are everywhere, and Germans love beer. Munich is where Oktoberfest is held for 2 weeks and we are heading there tomorrow.  If your car can go fast, let it go.  The autobahn is just a highway so everyone drives really fast!

St. Goar was a very tiny town where we learned of the legend of Lorielynn and how sailors would crash their boat there.  (I’ll need to do more research!)  We ate dinner then went on a wine tasting in a dungeon.  It was freezing cold, but we walked into a dungeon where we had tables with candles.  We got to learn and taste four different wines and then an ice wine.
