Mistletoe Show

December 15, 2012

Amanda, Jenn, and I went to the Mistletoe Show at Peabody Opera House.  I'm not the biggest fan of concerts but Train was the headliner for this show!  They didn't disappoint.  Also performing was a 2 bands I haven't heard of and Gavin DeGraw!

Words Can't Describe

December 11 and 12, 2012
Grand Canyon, AZ

Wow, words can't describe the beauty and massiveness of the Grand Canyon.  I have traveled several times to Phoenix for work and have always wanted to take the four hour drive north to check out this wonder.  It just so happened that my company had planned a meeting for December 13th, so Dr. Sam and I went to Phoenix a day early and traveled north.  The timing of the entire trip couldn't have been better.  Our plane landed early on Tuesday so we missed rush hour traffic.  Most times there is already snow on the ground (yes, it snows in Northern Arizona), but like most of us they haven't seen snow yet.  We arrived late on Tuesday to enjoy a dinner at El Tover Restaurant on the Grand Canyon grounds.  The next morning I woke up to go get a jog in before heading to there, but was completely surprised to see we were there.  I ran on the trails and watched the sun rise.  Dr. Sam and I went to several looks out before heading back to town.

Flagstaff, AZ
We stopped for lunch in Flagstaff, AZ and walked around the downtown area.  They had some cute stores.  They also were counting down the days for the pine cone drop (New Year's Eve).

I'm so glad that I was able to take the opportunity to see such a great site!  I would love to go again and do more trails!  I better keep in shape!

Vegan Cooking Class

December 3, 2012

Amanda gave me my Christmas present early this year.   She had arranged for us to take vegan cooking classes one night after work.  We showed up at 6 and ate by around 8 PM.  It was alot of work, but it was fun to help out in the kitchen.  Amanda and I were in charge of the pesto.  I think I have it down now and want to share with others.  Anyone brave enough?  Others in the class were in charge of eggplant, soup, tiramisu, and risotto.  I was in a food coma before we left.

Parade of Homes

December 1, 2012

Dad signed Mom up for a Parade of Homes Tour and she spent more hours decorating the house than anyone could count.  It is beautiful and so exciting to get to celebrate Christmas in just a few weeks now.  Rachel and I met in Hannibal, MO to drive home to be tour guides.  Jordan also got to work her schedule around and joined us for most of the weekend also!  By the end of the tour, Rachel and I both agreed that the stories kept growing!  I think we got close to the truth on most occasions.

A Time to be Thankful

Thanksgiving 2012

Wednesday, November 21- Sunday, November 25

This year my family came to St. Louis to bring in the holiday season.  The Andrews met me at work and we started the party early.  Wednesday night we have the official lighting of the Christmas tree.  It took about 10 seconds to get all my decorations out!  Thursday was beautiful and we took advantage of the outdoors.  Dad, Rachel, and I went to Creve Coeur Lake to get in a 2.6 mile run.  Afterwards we headed to the St. Louis Thanksgiving Day parade.  How fun and enjoyable to be outside.  For our Thanksgiving dinner we ate at TGI Friday's before Dad's famous pies.  We rested up for our shopping adventures and deals we did find on shoes.  It's better that we lose count on how many we bought!  I'm very thankful for my family and all the support they give.  We laugh until we cry and have the time of our life.

Zootini

November 17, 2012

Amanda and I headed out to support the zoo at the annual Zootini fundraiser.  It is a chance to dress up, dance, and meet new friends.  We ate dinner at Barcelona before heading over to the zoo!  What a great night!

Let the Races Begin

November 2-4th, 2012

Louisville, Kentucky

Lauren drove over to St. Louis to scratch off city 27: Louisville, KY.  Amanda came on this trip and invited her friend Claire to join.  What a great girls weekend away.

Saturday we decided we were going to the horse races.  I woke up early to get a quick run in before we headed to the mall to waste a hour.  Around 12 we headed for Churchhill Downs.  When we arrived we bought $3 tickets to the horse races.  There was going to be a total of 10 races Saturday and we didn't want to miss a single race.  When we arrived we were just wondering around trying to figure out where to go.  I stopped a man named Bob that ended up being a pretty big deal around there.  He ended up taking us all over the place.  He took us down to the Paddock where we met trainers, owners, jockey's, and horses of course!  We headed to the winner circle and just walked all over the place like we knew what was going on.  Before the end of the day we were in the box suites!  What a great day.  I didn't win any money, but I can sure pick a horse for someone else to win.  When I bet, some how I never won.

Saturday night we headed to a fun night in Bardstown.  That next morning we headed to Lynn's restaurant where anything weird is accepted before heading to Louisville Slugger museum.

27 was a success!

Football, Football, and Basketball

October 26-28th, 2012

Mahomet/Champaign, IL  Weekend 2

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to visit Rachel's new house, but didn't get to experience Ty's flag football game or Illinois's game, so another visit was in store.  I love how close they now live because if you are keeping track this was 3 times in the past month that I got to see the little guys.

Saturday morning Rachel and I got up to run before heading over to a cold flag football game.  Ty had an outstanding game and even scored a touchdown!  Little coach Andrews (Beya) did a great job of calling the plays in.  I was so surprised he kept focused on the game the entire time!

That afternoon we went to the Illinois game and got to sit in the suite.  They had some great food in the suite and I ate and ate and ate.  It was a good thing we ran that morning because I stopped counting the plate full of chips and guacamole. For dessert we had strawberries in orange juice.  Right when I couldn't imagine anymore Rachel made a great spaghetti dinner.  That evening we headed to a basketball game before calling it a night.

Lots of sports and lots of fun!

St. Louis Rock & Roll Weekend

October 19-21st, 2012

I don't seem to just go run for the fun of it.  I have to work at running and in order to inspire me to keep it up I always sign up for a race and then wonder the whole time why I did that.

This year I have decided to do my first Rock & Roll Half Marathon only if someone would come and watch.  Rachel, Ty, and Brady jumped on the opportunity for a party in St. Louis and away the training went.  Somehow I train so well and then race day is a different story.  This year I was very surprised that I kept to all my training, the weather was outstanding, and it was a great run on race day!  With all of these factors I had my personal best at 2 hours 11 minutes.

The Andrews came in on Thursday night so the boys were anxious for me to finally get off work on Friday.  We did our regular "party" stops with frozen yogurt before the boys found the Wii.  Mario Cart was a hit.  Saturday we headed to the expo by metro. It was about a four hour afternoon that should of taken less than 2 hours.  It was one of those items that Brady always asks to do, so it was a must.

After the big race we stocked up on some great snacks before heading to Forest Park to paddle boat.  This was a much better idea before running 13.1 miles.

Thanks Andrews for coming and supporting my big race!  Love you guys!

Soulard Oktoberfest and Halloween Fun Run

October 12-14th, 2012

Lauren came into town for a fun weekend around St. Louis and I think we went to just about every community in St. Louis.  Friday we started off in Clayton by eating at Barcelona followed by Sasha's.

Saturday we woke up, got our race packets, shopped, ate lunch at Crushed Red, watched the Mizzou game in Central West End, went to Forest Park, all before heading to Soulard for Oktoberfest.  Since going to Germany and seeing the actual area for Oktoberfest we wanted to see how St. Louis celebrated the event.  It was bigger than either one expected.

Sunday morning we woke up early for a Halloween Fun Run.  I ran a 10k with a 9:16 race.  Afterwards we met up with some of Lauren's friends for breakfast then showered and went to the zoo.

The weekends go by so quick, especially when it's nice outside and you get to see your best friend!
